Our industry has seen an incredible upturn over the past decade which makes it a highly attractive working environment. Today, Faurecia has a strategic role creating the mobility experience of the future working hand-in-hand with the world’s largest automakers. And many young talents have already seen the variety of business experience and diversified career paths this brings. While Faurecia is an international industrial Group, we’re structured in many different business units, including some that operate in ‘start up’ mode on very forward-looking topics such as the Cockpit of the Future. The Group offers a wide variety of jobs – from core industrial roles in production, quality, logistics or supply chain to more upstream innovation, product development and transverse functions across Finance, Purchasing, HR, marketing, sales and communication. And we’re broadening expertise in our Group for areas that will be increasingly important into the future. Digital skills – in application development, data science, artificial intelligence, human machine interface to name a few - will be increasingly in demand into the future!
For many years, we’ve developed close partnerships with leading universities and engineering schools. It’s enabled us to share our industry experience and technological know-how, as well as explore young people’s aspirations for their professional future. It’s involved everything from specialized research, collaboration on class technology projects, bringing students into R&D centers, showing design thinking and prototyping in action to HR support on honing CVs and applications.
In November we jumped at the opportunity to try something different with UTC (Technological University in Compiegne, France). On 25 & 26 November, 130 students joined Faurecia experts for a hackathon – an intense 24 hours spent exploring their ideas for the Cockpit of the Future. An opportunity for them to get hands-on experience of an inspiring technology challenge, as well as learning what it takes to work as a team. Something indispensable for the future! If the number of cans of energy drinks and pizzas consumed is any indication, the event was a real success.
The hackathon has been a great way to connect differently with young engineers, especially those specializing in IT and digital technologies. It’s enabled us to explore together the kind of collaborative challenges that people will meet throughout their careers. In 2018 we’ll have plenty more opportunities to open our world further, for example showcasing our solutions for cleaner cities or concepts for smart life on board at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January or at the Mondial Auto Show in October.
